Four Problems Your Fence May Need Repaired

Posted on: 1 March 2021

The fence that is on your property is designed and built to last for years. Yet, there are still some common issues that fence systems will need to have addressed if they are to remain functional and aesthetic.

Significant Warping

Warping of the fence posts or the panels can be a cause of concern as it may indicate that there are other serious problems with this part of the fence. For example, the fence may be starting to experience water damage that could make it more vulnerable to rot. Also, the warping effect can eventually lead to sections of the fence failing to fit together correctly, and this may leave gaps. Unfortunately, these gaps may eventually become large enough to allow pets to escape through the fence or unauthorized individuals to enter your property.

Rotting Sections

For those that have wooden fence systems, rot is a major threat. Once the components of this type of fence system start to suffer rotting, they will be weakened enough to be easier for individuals to breach. Rotted sections of fencing will have to be replaced in order to protect the structural integrity and security of the fence system. However, it will be possible to limit these replacements to the sections of the fence that have been damaged by the rot.

Pest Damage

Pests are another common source of problems for fence systems. Termites are among the bigger threats to the fence, as they will be able to rapidly compromise the wood, and they can spread throughout the entire fence system before moving to your home. Luckily, it is possible to treat a wooden fence with a termite repellent that will help to keep these pests from targeting the fence. The effectiveness of these treatments will decrease as a result of the exposure to the elements that the fence will experience. This will lead to you needing to have the entire fence treated with termite control substances every year.

Breached Sections

Unfortunately, a determined individual or animal may be able to breach your fence. In the process, there is a high likelihood that the fence will suffer damage that could make it easier to breach in the future. A common example of this can be individuals cutting through chain link fencing systems to make a hole large enough for them to fit through. Repairing a breached fence as soon as possible should be a major priority, as your property will be far more vulnerable until these repairs are completed. Luckily, repairing a breached section of fencing may take a fence repair contractor only a few hours to effectively address.
